In the last year, artists Lizzo and Beyonce were separately called out for using ableist lyrics. Both responded by rewriting these lyrics. While some commentators hailed the changes as linguistic justice, others viewed the changes as linguistic oppression. If artistic language is deemed offensive, how should artists respond? Our panel examines this complex topic through the multiple lenses of gender, race and artistic expression.
